Grand Junction, CO - Due to increased absences this week, Rocky Mountain Elementary School will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019. Although Rocky Mountain received additional disinfecting Monday and will be disinfected again tonight, we believe taking the extra step of closing the school on Wednesday will help minimize the spread of any illness and give everyone who is sick more time to get well before returning to school. REC and Extended Hours will also be cancelled on Wednesday.

D51 Public Opinion Survey results released

Grand Junction, CO– Of the 5,202 people who took the District 51 Public Opinion Survey Between May 1 and May 17, 2019, 53% said they would likely or very likely support a bond measure to rebuild Grand Junction High School and provide renovations to make Central, Fruita Monument, and Palisade high schools safer for $4.83 in property tax per month for a $200,000 home. An additional 26.4% said they were unlikely or very unlikely to vote for such a measure, and 20.6% said they were not sure.

Grand Junction, CO - The RISE program at Grand Junction High School is partnering with Food Bank of the Rockies to arrange a second food giveaway for families in need. There will be a variety of foods including produce, milk, and bread, and participants are encouraged to take as much as they need. The event will take place on Tuesday, February 12 from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. in the Grand Junction High School student parking lot. All in the community are welcome to attend, and there are no forms to fill out or RSVPs necessary.

Grand Junction, CO – The District 51 Board of Education adopted a new calendar for the 2018-19 school year tonight, March 6, 2018, during a board meeting in the Harry Butler Board Room. The First Day of School for students will be Aug. 15, 2018, and the Last Day of School for students will be May 30, 2019.

Two dozen D51 schools to show off preschool offerings March 6

Grand Junction, CO – Each year, School District 51 offers tuition-free preschool to 850 children between the ages of three and five. Grand Junction, CO – The School of Choice program allows District 51 parents to apply for the opportunity to enroll their children in a school that is outside their neighborhood attendance boundaries. School District 51 will begin taking applications for School of Choice for the 2018-19 school year at 10 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2018. Applications will be accepted through 4 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018.

Fruita, CO - Out of an over-abundance of caution, tonight’s basketball game between Grand Junction High School and Fruita Monument High School has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018. Junior Varsity games will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, Girls Varsity will start at 12:30 p.m., and Boys Varsity will start at 2 p.m. at Fruita Monument High School.

Outdoor program to welcome more sixth-graders this springs
Grand Junction, CO – Mesa County Valley School District 51’s Outdoor Wilderness Lab, better known as OWL, is expanding! After seven years of connecting a growing number of Bookcliff Middle School sixth-graders with science and team-building skills through hands-on lessons in the great outdoors, the innovative OWL program will be offered to sixth-graders from all District 51 middle schools starting in Spring 2020.
