It’s not every day that you get to watch your son’s University football team play in a bowl game, but that happened this year for two of District 51’s employees. Director of Curriculum & Learning Design, Jen Marsh, and Director of Career & College Readiness, Cheri Taylor both had sons in a bowl game this year. And it just so happened to be the same bowl game! Max Marsh (Kansas State) and Kole Taylor (LSU) both played in the Texas Bowl this year. But the connection runs even deeper than their mom’s working for D51.

Grand Junction, CO - Students in Mesa County Valley School District 51 surpassed the state average in growth on Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) testing in both math and English Language Arts this spring. Growth data compares student performance on 2021 CMAS tests to scores achieved by the same students when they were two years younger in 2019. There was no CMAS testing in 2020.

Grand Junction, CO - School District 51 recorded its lowest dropout rate of the 21st century in 2019-20, according to data released Tuesday, Jan. 12, by the Colorado Department of Education. D51’s 2019-20 dropout rate of 1.7% is the lowest recorded by CDE, whose district dropout rate data goes back as far as the 2000-01 school year.
