I hope you’ve all had a wonderful start to your March! We had a great School Board meeting on the first day of this month, where we got to hear from two of our student groups: Future Business Leaders of America and Mock Trial. Both clubs are instrumental in building student confidence, public speaking skills, and professionalism, and it was great to hear directly from the students on Tuesday night. The GJHS Mock Trial team just won the district title at the Western Slope Regional last weekend (for the 15th time in the last 19 years!), and FBLA will send nearly 60 D51 students to the State Leadership Conference next month!

It was also great to hear from those involved in our Warrior Wellness Center at this week’s board meeting. The Warrior Wellness Center is the district’s first School-Based Health Center, and is operated by our generous partners Marillac Clinic inside of Central High School. In addition to providing convenient care for physical health issues, it was amazing to hear how many of our students have utilized the center for behavioral health care. The need for at least one School-Based Health Center in our community is evident, and I sincerely hope that we can include one in plans for the new Grand Junction High School as well.

SWAP Youth Job Fair

The School to Work Alliance Program Youth Job Fair and Community Resources Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. next Thursday, March 10, at the D51 Career Center, 2935 North Ave. As noted below, there is no school on March 10. Students should bring resumes and come prepared to interview with potential employers. If you have any questions, please call 970-254-6011 or visit gjswap.org.

Teacher Development and Planning Days

A quick reminder that Third Quarter comes to an end next Wednesday, and that students will have the day off March 10 for a Teacher Work Day and March 11 for elementary planning and middle and high school in-service.
