Substitute Information

FORMER DISTRICT 51 EMPLOYEES THAT LEFT THE DISTRICT AT THE END OF THE 2018-29 SCHOOL YEAR:
IF YOU WISH TO RETURN AS A SUBSTITUTE, THERE WILL BE A SPECIAL HIRING BLOCK FROM OCTOBER 20TH THROUGH NOVEMBER 2ND.  ONCE THE BLOCK IS CLOSED, THE APPLICATIONS WILL BE PROCESSED AND HOPEFULY HAVE YOU READY TO START SUBSTITUTING THE FIRST OF DECEMBER.


APPLICATIONS FOR ALL SUBSTITUTE POSITIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON A CONTINUOUS BASIS.  YOU MAY APPLY AT ANY TIME.  APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED AND PROCESSED THE LAST WEEK OF EVERY MONTH.

All substitutes are required to be fingerprinted and have a background check.

District 51 requires all substitute teachers to have a bachelor's degree and one of the following:

- Current Colorado Teaching License

- Colorado 3-year or 5-year Substitute Authorization License

- Submitted License application with fingerprint requirement processed

Licensing information may be obtained from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). Interested substitute teaching applicants should begin the licensing application process through CDE early, as the process can take up to 12 weeks or longer. Applicants should have their license, or have applied for their license, prior to applying for a substitute teacher position with District 51.

Classified/Support Substitute position including substitute paraprofessionals, substitute secretaries, and substitute health assistant are not required to have a bachelor's degree or CO teaching license. Experience in a school setting is preferred, but not required. Substitute health assistant applicants must have a current CPR certification.

In order to be considered for employment, please provide the following documentation for your applicant file:

  • Completed online application through applitrack
  • Current Resume
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation (letters should not be from the same individuals listed as references on the application)
  • Official or Unofficial transcripts (licensed substitute teacher applications only)
  • Copy of Colorado Teaching Certificate or Licensure, or a statement of the status of the application to the Colorado Department of Education (licensed substitute teacher applications only.)

Be sure to read all of the information under the particular hiring block as requirements may change. Applications must be complete to be considered.

Please note, obtaining a Colorado teaching license or substitute authorization, and submitting all other required District 51 application materials, does not guarantee an applicant will be hired by District 51 as a substitute teacher. This is an application process, and you must be hired to become a substitute employee.

The Substitute Specialist will be reviewing applications the last week of every month. References will be reviewed. Please be sure to make your references aware of the email they will receive. Qualified applicants will be contacted via email to schedule an interview.
