Grand Junction, CO - Mesa County Valley School District 51 (D51) proudly recognizes the achievements of 206 students who earned AP Scholar Awards during the 2021-2022 school year.  Every fall, the AP Program recognizes high school students who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP Exams.

AP Scholar with Distinction Award

Fifty-seven D51 students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 out of 5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of three or higher on five or more of these exams.

AP Scholar with Honor Award

Forty-five D51 students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of three or higher on four or more of these exams.

AP Scholar Award

Ninety-five D51 students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with scores of three or higher.

AP Capstone Diploma

Nine D51 students qualified for the AP Capstone Diploma. To receive an AP Capstone Diploma, students must earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research, and in four additional AP Exams. AP Seminar and AP Research use an interdisciplinary approach to develop the critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills students need for college-level work.

“D51 is proud of the hard work these students have put into their futures,” said Lisa Borgmann, D51’s Coordinator for College Prep. “Research shows students who take AP courses are more likely to enroll in college, remain enrolled, and be prepared for the rigors of college, earning their degrees on time. As we highlight these students, we cannot forget to thank our deeply committed AP teachers who pair high expectations with rigorous instruction in order to grow D51 student achievement.”

The College Board Advanced Placement Program gives students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school. A 3 or higher on an AP Exam has multiple benefits for students, including earning college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on AP Exams, saving them time and money. Each exam is developed by a committee of college and university faculty and AP teachers, ensuring that AP Exams align with their high standards.
