Superintendent's Message

Dear District 51 Partner,

It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I present to you the Mesa County Valley School District 51 Strategic Plan for 2025–30. This plan is the result of months of dedicated work by a diverse group of district and community stakeholders, known as the Steering Committee. Over the course of this school year, more than 70 members of the Steering Committee carefully reviewed and analyzed years of data from a wide range of sources to identify four focus areas and eight priority areas. We are deeply grateful for their commitment, insight, and dedication to the future of District 51.

The 2022–25 Strategic Plan laid a strong foundation for the work ahead. Over the past three years, we have made measurable progress in key areas such as student achievement, staff development, and community engagement. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of our educators, families, and partners, we have seen what is possible when a district aligns its efforts with a clear, community-driven vision. This new five-year plan builds upon that success and positions us to deepen our impact, innovate further, and reach new levels of excellence together.

Strategic plans are essential guiding documents for any organization—especially for District 51, the largest organization between Denver and Salt Lake City. They serve as a roadmap to align our vision, shape our goals, and focus our collective efforts on what matters most: student success.

This strategic plan reflects the voices, values, and priorities of our entire Mesa County community. It is grounded in the belief that when we work together—students, families, educators, and community partners—we can create transformational change. Implementing this plan is not the responsibility of any one individual or department; it is a shared commitment to excellence that will impact every classroom, every school, and every corner of our community.

The work ahead will be challenging. The goals outlined in this plan are ambitious, and they will require innovative thinking, collaboration, and sustained effort. And with the collective strength of our community, I am confident we will fulfill these commitments and build a stronger future for every student in District 51.

The best way to predict the future is to invent it. In District 51, we are inventing that future—together. Thank you for joining us on this five-year journey that will positively impact the lives of our students, staff, families, and the broader Mesa County community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brian Hill
Superintendent
