challenging. Lastly, I want to thank my lacrosse coaches, Morgan and Madi, who
have taught me everything I know about the sport I love most.
Do you have any advice for fellow students still in school?
For those of you still in high school, I want to remind you that you get out
of school what you put into it, both academically and socially. Go to those
games and dances, join those clubs and sports that you're interested in,
because that's where you will find the people you relate to most. It might be
scary at first, but it's worth a shot. I tried a lot of new things in high
school (lacrosse, ALT, mock trial, WCCC CNA's program, cross country, Junior
Ski Patrol, working). Some things worked out great, while others didn't and
that's okay too. It is so important to learn from your mistakes because that's
how you grow as an individual.

Marching band was one of my favorite parts of High School. It helped me
discover one of my passions for playing snare drum as well as help me break
out of my shell and make friends. It was a lot of work but mostly a lot of
fun. The friends I made here, and all the fun we had together in school and
outside of school, will be something I remember and cherish long after
graduation. I'll always remember the feeling of performing at a state
competition, as well as the feeling of lying on the shaded asphalt with my
fellow drumline members to rest our aching backs. The marching band is like my
second family, and I'm so glad I was a part of it.

Get to know how your teachers are so you can get on their good side and earn

Separate your life and school as much as you possibly can mentally. Realize

School only sets you up for more life, but do not forget to live during high
school either. Have fun. But not in class.

In my sophomore year I joined the FMHS Catalyst newspaper. After hard work
learning the ins and outs of journalism I finally got to see my writing in a
traditional print style. It was incredible to see all the hard work my peers
and I put in, in final form.
Consider this your Oscars/Grammy/Emmy acceptance speech. Is there anyone

I am so thankful to all of my teachers, every single one of them have shown me
something about myself and the world we live in. Each pushed me to my full
potential, even when I didn't feel like working hard at times. And I always
knew I had a wonderful collection of teachers to turn to if I need advice.
Outside of school I was lucky to have parents who expected me to work hard but
understood the importance of having fun, too. My dance instructors showed me
how to forget my worries (or at least try to) and live in the moment. I thank
each and everyone of them, because I wouldn't be who I am today without them.

That one time I hid fifty dollars in my desk just to see if someone would find

Consider this your Oscars/Grammy/Emmy acceptance speech. Is there anyone
you'd like to thank?
The passion of one is the heart of many, for those who dream have seen the
need for change in the people that surround them. I would first like to thank
those who stood by me. Family, both blood and bond, is the only crutch that
can support a heart. It matters not who you are or where you are going without
friendships to share the spoils of life. As we all know, memories cannot be
bought. They are created, and thus we are responsible for the life we
construct. I would like to thank that one person who said it was impossible
for ‘normal' people to get straight A's. You know who you are, and you owe me.
I thank those who have seen and endured what many will never know, be it in
service, circumstance, or a simple act of goodwill. May your courage change
the world as you have changed others. To those who taught me to value the
hardships and to be willing to work for something better, you are my
inspiration. To those who think that they have failed. The test of life only
ends when your heart stops beating. Finally, to those who ever accepted a
challenge just to see if it was possible, do you regret it?
Do you have any advice for fellow students still in school?
You've questioned it over and over again. Why are they so different? Why can't
I be like them? I have had these very same thoughts, and I am here to tell you
that there is nothing stopping you from becoming the person you aspire to be.
Have you ever wanted to try something but couldn't, just because? I have, many
times. Only I later gained the courage to face that desire. I have tried
skateboarding, learned to play the violin, taken four years of Spanish and one
year of American Sign Language, went skydiving, joined Speech and Debate,
tried that Ag Construction class that no girl wants to take, battled AP
classes, joined Cross Country with no prior running experience. All of these
decisions were sudden impulses. I can proudly say that I regret none of them.
While there were some moments I would like to forget, I am who I am today
because of those experiences. One bad day cannot ruin a lifetime of amazing
opportunities. How did I do it? Why? Money. That's what everyone thinks. I got
straight A's for money. While scholarships do help, they are merely a bonus.
Rather, I did it for all you ‘ordinary' students. I learned that honors
classes are not as hard as you have convinced yourself. Take that class, and
if it's too difficult, talk to your teacher or switch out. That club that is
highly competitive? They are looking for people as motivated as you. As a
child, I struggled in school, and was seldom willing to put in the extra
effort. One day, a friend said it was impossible to get straight A's. I made
myself the promise that if I failed, it truly had to be impossible. But I
didn't, and you won't either. If you try, and I don't mean the kind where you
give up in a couple weeks, at the very least, you will come close, no matter
who you are. You will have earned something gained a level of respect for
yourself that wasn't there before. It doesn't matter how much knowledge you
can store in your head. What matters is how willing you are to face the
obstacle holding you back. If you must, buy a desk, get a lamp for night
study, wrap yourself in a blanket, use music, do pushups to stay awake, tie
yourself to a chair (i've used this one). So what does this mean for you? Do
not let the complaints of others intimidate you. Your greatest opponent is not
that person who is stronger, smarter, prettier, richer than you. It is
yourself, the person who stares back at you in the mirror, the person that you
believe you are. Take the challenge, even if you think you will fail.
Remember, being smart is irrelevant. I am living proof.

I know everyone says to value your time because high school goes by fast, but
really don't waste a second! Get involved in programs related to your
passions, push yourself to try something new, and most importantly do not
waste your time worrying about if you are accomplished enough, smart enough,
or good enough. We each have different dreams and define success differently,
do not waste your time comparing your goals to others. Find ways to celebrate
your successes no matter how small or large, and be proud of your personal
growth and accomplishments no matter what they are! Life is too short to waste
time discounting yourself.

Mom, Dad, and Noah, thank you for everything you have done for me. Thank you
for cheering me on even when I was going through difficult times. I would not
be where I am if it were not for the sacrifices you all have made. Mama and
Papa, thank you for always being there for me. You both helped calm me when I
was on the verge of giving up. I miss you very dearly, Papa. I will always
carry the advice you have given me in my heart. To Shihan, you have taught me
things about life that nobody else could have and for that I am very grateful.
Lastly, I would like to thank Mrs. Pearce, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Hayward, and
Mrs. Ludwig for helping me through this season of my life. Though it might not
seem like it, your words of kindness have helped motivate me through some of
the toughest parts of my life.

My advice is to set yourself up with friends and teachers that help you
succeed. If they want to help you succeed, it makes your job significantly
easier to do. You also have people you can turn to when you need them, instead
of trying to forge friendships in your time of need. Having supportive friends
and teachers makes high school so much easier.

I would like to thank my family. My parents and siblings have supported me
through everything. They have been by my side through thick and thin; the good
days and the bad. They have pushed me to be the person I am today. I would
also like to thank all of my teachers I've had throughout the years. I have
learned something from each one of them and each one of them have helped me in
some way get to where I'm at today.

Please don't take anything for granted. Live life to the absolute fullest.
Join that club. Try out for that team. Audition for that play. Don't be afraid
to put yourself out there. As a senior who's time in high school was
unexpectedly cut short, this is the biggest lesson I've learned. You never
know when the last time is your last. So don't stress about the little things.
Work hard and really enjoy your time in high school. It's supposed to be the
best time of your life. So live it up.
