It’s hard to believe we have officially made it through the first quarter of the 2021-22 school year! It seems like just yesterday we were welcoming students back to buildings after summer break. I have so enjoyed visiting classrooms, student events, and seeing all of the great things going on in our schools this fall. Remember that we have two events this Saturday - the D51 Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at R-5 High, 455 N. 22nd St., and the Tour of Grand Junction High School at noon.

Financial Achievement Award

I am very proud to announce that District 51 has earned the Government Finance Officers Association’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 23rd year in a row! This certificate is a testament to our Financial Services department and the many hours they put into our comprehensive annual financial report. District 51 is committed to financial transparency and being good stewards of taxpayer dollars, and this certificate comes from an objective source that agrees that we value being open about every penny spent in your school district. Free Application Days

Next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, all public postsecondary institutions (and some private ones) will waive their application fees during Colorado Free Application Days. Last year, nearly 57,000 Colorado residents applied to participating schools on Colorado Free Application Day. This year, the program is expanding to three days to encourage more Coloradans to apply.
