Dr Sirko

I hope your summer is going well! We wrapped summer learning this week and are proud of the many successes achieved during Summer Extension. From June 2-29, we regularly provided meals, transportation, and a chance to catch up on learning to more than 2,200 students. We are projecting more than 400 high school classes will be recovered for credit, and student test data in younger grades will be monitored for progress. Congratulations to our students, we are proud of your achievements!

2021-22 Planning

Plans for the coming school year are coming together. We plan to announce our final plan in my next email update, which will come out during the week of July 12-16. Again, vaccination for students and staff is not required, but reduces the likelihood that staff and students may be quarantined. We will still offer in-person learning as well as an online option. Grand River Academy will offer a blended learning option to all grade levels and an online-only option for middle and high school students. To learn more about online options, click here

COVIDCheck Colorado testing sites

COVIDCheck Colorado has been an excellent partner for the school district and has provided free, drive-up COVID-19 testing in the parking lots at Grand Mesa Middle School and Fruita Monument High School since December 2020. The GMMS site will close July 2 and its equipment will be relocated to the south parking lot at Central High School, where a new COVIDCheck Colorado testing site will open on July 12. The FMHS testing site is set to close on July 16 and will be moved to another Fruita location that is to be determined. For updates about hours and sites, please continue to visit covidcheckcolorado.org.

Stuff the Bus

Finding the money to buy school supplies is a struggle for many District 51 families. The annual Stuff the Bus donation drive helps these families by collecting school supplies to be delivered to each school, where office staff can distribute them to those in need. Stuff the Bus begins next Tuesday, July 6. If you would like to participate in the drive, please drop off new school supplies at the white school bus parked inside Mesa Mall at Clock Court. Your generosity and kindness will be greatly appreciated!

Sports Physicals

The Warrior Wellness Clinic inside Central High School is offering free sports physicals to Central High students by appointment on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Once the clinic reopens July 19, clinic hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please call 970-200-1603 to schedule your appointment. You can also call the same number to pre-register for a mouth guard fitting at the clinic on Wednesday, July 28.

A quick reminder: all District 51 offices are closed Friday, July 2, and Monday, July 5, to mark the Independence Day holiday. The Lunch Lizard is also on break for the holiday, returning to service July 6. Enjoy your weekend, and Happy July 4th!
