Grand Junction, CO - Trish Mahre will be sworn in as the newest member of the District 51 School Board tonight, May 5, 2020, at a virtual meeting. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on the District 51 Facebook page.

I am looking forward to the new experience of working in the realm of education to support success for all students,” Ms. Mahre said. “While my experience with children comes from a different professional perspective, I hope to use an outside perspective to ask good questions, make solid inquiry into where D51 has been and is headed, ensure transparency, and participate in the tough decision making that lies ahead.”

A graduate of Grand Junction High School, Ms. Mahre comes to the district with a long history of interest in the well-being of children. She has nearly three decades of experience as an attorney and is the Chief Deputy District Attorney in the 21st Judicial District, specializing in juvenile court and crimes against children. Her lengthy history of community involvement includes serving as secretary for the GJHS Booster Club, hosting exchange students, and efforts to help students interested in law.

Current D51 School Board members chose Ms. Mahre to fill a vacant seat on the board following an interview process on April 22. She replaces John Williams, who resigned from the board earlier this spring to pursue a general counsel job within the school district.

Ms. Mahre’s appointment will last through November 2021. She will represent Director District C on the five-member board, which comprises most of central and northern Grand Junction.
