Grand Junction, CO - The following letter was sent to all District 51 parents today from Superintendent Dr. Diana Sirko: "Dear D51 Families:

I want to send you this quick update to let you know about upcoming end-of-year procedures and graduation plans. As you may have heard from your principals, the last day of remote learning lessons will be Thursday, May 14. This will give students time to finish all lessons and projects and get them turned in to teachers before grades are due.

It will also give families and staff needed time following May 14 to clear out desks, lockers and materials, depending on grade level, pick up any medications that may still be at school, and return Chromebooks (unless your school has instructed you to do otherwise). If they have not already, your child's school will be in touch soon to discuss checkout procedures, including guidelines that will help keep everyone safe and healthy.

A few other reminders:
* Practice social distancing by avoiding gatherings of more than 10 people in one area and maintaining a distance of 6 feet from others. * Have a face covering to wear at times when you are more likely to come within 6 feet of others. * Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available. * Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. * Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow. Throw used tissues in the trash and immediately wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.  * Clean AND disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces such as workstations, keyboards, telephones, cell phones, handrails, and door knobs. * Dirty surfaces can be cleaned with soap and water prior to disinfection. * Stay home if you are sick!

Finally, there are many school activities that usually take place in the last few weeks and it is sad that our staff and students cannot have those experiences. Please know that we are sad to miss those celebrations with you, too. Still, we look forward to celebrating graduations in July. Please see your email from earlier this week with dates and times, or check www.d51schools.org/calendar/graduation_dates

Hang in there everyone! You are in the home stretch for the school year, so continue with your exemplary work adapting to a difficult situation and take great pride in your efforts as a family. We thank you all for your support and dedication as parents, guardians, and students!

Stay safe and healthy,

Diana"
