Grand Junction, CO Grand Junction High School will host Open Houses for the public at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, and at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, at the school at 1400 N. Fifth St.

Each Open House will provide a chance for the community to tour the facility, visit (or revisit) the building, and learn about Grand Junction High School.

Community members have shown extra interest in conditions at GJHS since the District 51 School Board approved a bond measure for the Nov. 5, 2019, General Election ballot. The ballot measure proposes:

  • A new Grand Junction High School building (the old building would be demolished once the new one is built on the north end of the current GJHS property) with one main entrance and a security vestibule.
  • Remodeling projects at Central, Fruita Monument, and Palisade high schools to eliminate multiple unsecure entrances, have one entrance with a security vestibule, and connect all buildings on each campus under one roof for improved security.
  • A cafeteria expansion, asbestos abatement, ADA projects, fire sprinkler installation, and additional classrooms for a growing population and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programming at Central High School.
  • An additional 18 classrooms at Fruita Monument High School, making room for ninth-graders to attend school there (FMHS is currently just for grades 10-12) and allowing Fruita 8/9 and Fruita Middle School each to serve grades 6-8.
  • Fire sprinklers and 10 multi-disciplinary classrooms at Palisade High School.

Due to a recent change in Colorado Secretary of State Election Rules, the 2019 Bond Measure will appear on Nov. 5 General Election ballots as Measure 4A. Previously, school district measures statewide used 3A-Z for ballot questions.
