Grand Junction, COToday, Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, Mesa County Valley School District 51 Board of Education members selected Dr. Diana Sirko to serve as the district’s interim superintendent.

The board interviewed Sirko and two other candidates (Matt Diers and Norman Ridder) on the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 27, and received input from a group of D51 stakeholders who met with the candidates Thursday morning. While all three candidates had strengths, board members said Dr. Sirko stood out.

I want to thank you for your interest and your willingness to step forward and help us as a district and as a board,” D51 School Board President Tom Parrish told Dr. Sirko.

Dr. Sirko has 43 years of experience as an educator in Colorado. She is the Leadership Program Coordinator and an instructor for Colorado Mesa University's Masters program in education leadership. She formerly worked as deputy commissioner of education for the Colorado Department of Education and was superintendent of both Roaring Fork School District and Aspen School District.

Dr. Sirko’s start date has not yet been confirmed.
