Grand Junction, CO – The application processes for New Emerson STEAM School and Dual Immersion Academy will begin Monday, Feb. 3, 2020. Both specialty schools use a lottery process to enroll students, who can apply from anywhere within District 51.

New Emerson, located at 2660 Unaweep Ave., is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) magnet school for kindergarten through fifth-grade students. New Emerson will accept applications for the 2020-21 school year for all grades from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 3-6 and from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Feb. 7 at the school.

Dual Immersion Academy, 552A W. Main St., is a bilingual school that offers instruction in English and Spanish for kindergarten through fifth-graders (a middle school DIA program operates at Bookcliff Middle School). Pre-registration for the Kindergarten Lottery Process will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 3-6 at the school.

While the majority of DIA students begin the program in kindergarten, there is a separate screening process and waiting list for first- through fifth-graders, who can apply for the waiting list at any time, including during the Feb. 3-6 Kindergarten Lottery Process window.
