The 2022 lottery registration process for each school will run Wednesday, Jan. 5, through Wednesday, Jan. 12. Parents/guardians can pick up lottery registration materials between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday during this timeframe in the main office of the school to which they plan to apply. Dual Immersion is located at 552A W. Main St., and New Emerson is located at 2660 Unaweep Ave.

Children with siblings at New Emerson will receive priority enrollment in New Emerson, and children with siblings at Dual Immersion will receive priority enrollment in DIA. Sibling registration is taking place at both schools in December through Thursday, Dec. 16.

New Emerson is a STEAM-focused school with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. Dual Immersion Academy is a bilingual program featuring instruction in both English and Spanish and a 50/50 balance of English-dominant and Spanish-dominant students. Spanish-dominant lottery applicants to DIA will receive a screening time on Jan. 14 to assess whether they are fluent in Spanish.

New Emerson's lottery drawing will take place on Friday, Jan. 14, and Dual Immersion's lottery drawing will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 18. No individual parent meetings or tours will be scheduled with staff prior to the drawing.

After the drawings, letters will be mailed to the homes of applicants telling them whether their child has been chosen to register at the school or informing them of their position on the waitlist. Parents/guardians of any child chosen to register must call the school by the fifth school day after the date on the letter to confirm their child will attend the school in 2022-23. The letter will also list a deadline in April for final registration for incoming kindergarten students, and there will be a Back to School Night in May.

While most students start New Emerson or DIA in kindergarten, parents/guardians of students who will be in grades 1-5 in 2022-23 can apply for a waitlist spot in either school Jan. 5-12. New Emerson does a lottery drawing for grades 1-5. At DIA, applications for the grade 1-5 waitlist awards spots on a first-come, first-served basis. The waiting list does not roll over each year, so anyone who applied for the waitlist last year will need to apply again.
