Grand Junction, CO – The School District 51 Board of Education adopted a 2019-20 school calendar on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, that will significantly chip away at the number of weeks that include fewer than five school days.

Board members adopted one of two draft calendar options presented to the board last month by the District 51 Calendar Committee. The calendar, presented as Draft Calendar A, begins the school year on Aug. 12, 2019, and ends school on May 21, 2020. It also includes seven fragmented weeks with between two and four school days, down from 17 such weeks in the 2018-19 calendar.

The school board asked D51 Calendar Committee members to tackle three priorities with the 2019-20 calendar: fragmented weeks, Early Release Wednesdays for elementary planning, and school start times. The board plans to address the topics of Early Release and start times at later meetings. To see the results of the district's public survey about these three calendar topics, click here.
