Grand Junction, CO – Parents, students, staff, and community members are encouraged to take a survey regarding future District 51 calendars by visiting The survey is also available in Spanish at, and paper copies may be requested at school offices for those without internet access.

A public survey in May helped the Board of Education prioritize issues in the school calendar that they would like to address in the years to come. The board's priorities informed a series of questions asked at five focus groups that happened across the valley in the fall of 2018. Three issues that rose to the top are early release Wednesdays at elementary schools, school start times (especially for middle and high schools), and fragmented weeks.

The new survey asks participants to agree or disagree with potential solutions to three calendar issues that have been prioritized for board consideration. The survey, which launched Thursday, Dec. 13, and will close at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, will help the D51 Calendar Committee determine whether the focus group results are representative of the greater community and inform their recommendations to the Board of Education for calendars in 2019-20 and beyond. The Calendar Committee plans to present recommendations to the board in January, and the board will adopt a final 2019-20 calendar in March at the very latest.
