Grand Junction, CO – Growth and performance on Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) tests have earned awards from the Colorado Department of Education for two District 51 schools.

This is New Emerson's eighth time winning the state's John Irwin Award for earning some of the state’s highest scores on CMAS tests. New Emerson has earned the award every year since 2011 with the exception of 2015 – a year when no John Irwin Awards were given due the switch that year from Transitional Colorado Assessment Program (TCAP) testing to CMAS testing.

Scenic Elementary School also added a CDE award to its trophy case this year - the Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award. Scenic has earned the Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award five times, in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and now in 2019.

The Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award goes to Colorado schools that exceed state benchmarks for growth in individual CMAS scores.
