Grand Junction, CO– After interviewing three finalists for the position today, Sept. 27, 2018, Mesa County Valley School District 51 Board of Education members decided to pick an interim superintendent no later than a previously scheduled Board Work Session and Business Meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, in the Harry Butler Board Room.

The three finalists for the position are Matt Diers, Norman Ridder, and Diana Sirko. The finalists met with a group of District 51 stakeholders on Thursday morning. Four representatives from the stakeholder group shared their impressions of the candidates with the board after the board interviewed each candidate individually Thursday afternoon. Board members said they would like to have new leadership as soon as possible, but would like to take some time to reflect on today’s interviews before making a final decision.

District 51 Assistant Superintendent Dr. Scott Cooper will continue to serve as acting superintendent until an interim can begin work. Dr. Cooper has served as acting superintendent since the board and former superintendent Ken Haptonstall mutually agreed to part ways on Aug. 31, 2018.

The board will soon begin the lengthy process of searching for, interviewing, and hiring a permanent superintendent. The anticipated start date for the permanent superintendent is July 1, 2019.
