Grand Junction, CO - All but one grade in Mesa County Valley School District 51 saw improvement year-over-year on Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) math and English Language Arts tests, according to data released Aug. 17 by the Colorado Department of Education.
A greater percentage of students in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 met or exceeded proficiency on both math and English Language Arts CMAS tests in spring 2022 compared to spring 2021.
D51 fourth-graders performed particularly well, beating the state average in both math and coming within a percentage point of the state on ELA. Fourth-grade students in District 51 topped the state average for CMAS math by more than six percentage points.
“We are incredibly proud of our students who made growth in their learning in 2021-22 and our D51 staff who remained focused and helped support them during a time of unprecedented disruption due to the pandemic,” said Dr. Brian Hill, superintendent of District 51. “We want to celebrate our accomplishments as a district while also recognizing there is room for more growth. Our work is not complete until all students are performing at or above grade level and we have met our Strategic Plan goals for student academic success.”
