Volunteer

All you need is a genuine love for children, some free time, and a willingness to work under professional supervision.

• All volunteers are required to complete a volunteer agreement form each school year. Each volunteer needs to complete his or her own separate form. Please do not have two volunteers on one form. The volunteer agreement form is available at all District 51 Schools. It is not provided online.  
• If a volunteer is coaching, they will need to fill out the volunteer agreement form and the volunteer coaching form. Paid volunteer coaches need to contact Brenda Chandler at brenda.chandler@d51schools.org.
• If a volunteer requires a background check, they will need to email or call to schedule an appointment with the Volunteer Office. Email the Volunteer Office. 
• Trainings are provided by the individual schools, not the volunteer office.

Volunteer positions that involve the volunteer working with a student one-on-one require a background check. These positions include (but are not limited to):

• Riding the bus with students or driving 
• Volunteer Coaching
• Overnight field-trip chaperone, marching band trips, Owl Camp, etc. 
• Watch D.O.G.S
• Lunch Lizard program
• RSVP Volunteers 
• Reading Aide or tutoring (when a volunteer works with a student in the hallway)

• The volunteer background check is good for 5 years. Once the volunteer background has expired, volunteers are required to redo their background check to continue volunteering. 
• Current D51 employees and students are not required to complete a background check.
• The District cannot accept any outside background information. We are required to process volunteers through our own background policy. 

Volunteers are asked to attend a volunteer orientation session and are encouraged to take advantage of the many training opportunities, which are provided to enhance their skills. Apart from that, schools will work with you to create a schedule that is beneficial for everyone.
