District 51 seeks to provide a quality and affordable health plan for all eligible employees and their families. Our self-insured medical plan is administered by UnitedHealthcare Options PPO (UMR).  D51 covers the cost of premiums for employee-only coverage for eligible full-time employees.  Insurance coverage begins the first of the month following 30 consecutive days of employment.

District 51 offers eligible employees a vision care insurance plan through Vision Service Plan (VSP). The vision plan through VSP provides access through a national network, including both private practice and retail chain providers.  Vision Service Plans provides an eye exam, prescription glasses and frames, or contacts once every twelve months and costs less than $10 per month for an employee!

ServeYou Rx, a full-service pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), manages the District's pharmacy benefits. ServeYou Rx offers an online member portal with member tools, forms and more. Programs such as their online EZRefillRx and EZAutofill make it very easy to refill and ship medications to your home before you run out. Their live customer contact center is available 7 days a week during specific hours.

Group life insurance (MetLife) is provided to employees who work 20 or more hours per week at no cost to the employee. The benefit is 2x your basic monthly earnings, rounded to the nearest $1,000, up to $250,000*.  An amount equal to the life benefit is payable due to an accident.

*reductions at age 65

A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) offers you an easy way to reduce your taxes.  Money withheld for an FSA is not subject to Federal and State income taxes and Social Security Tax.  When you participate in an FSA, you are only taxed on the income left over after you have paid certain out-of-pocket healthcare and daycare expenses.  An FSA provides valuable benefits and tax savings since many of your normal expenses can be paid with pre-tax money!  You and your dependents do not need to be enrolled in D51's medical, dental, or vision insurance plans to utilize an FSA.  You can use these monies with your spouse's insurance plans or Medicare.

District 51 offers eligible employees an opportunity to join an employee-administered sick leave bank.  Membership in the sick leave bank allows employees to apply for additional sick leave days in the event of severe illness, injury, impairment, or physical, or mental condition.

District 51 provides an EAP program for employees and eligible household members through TRIAD.  The EAP program can help you reduce stress, improve mental
health, and make life easier by connecting you to the right information, resources, and referrals.

The Colorado Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) provides retirement and other benefits to employees of the State of Colorado and school districts. For most members, PERA serves as a substitute for Social Security. PERA provides benefits to your when you retire or are disabled, or to family after death. In addition, PERA members may take advantage of voluntary programs offered by PERA such as life insurance, a 401(k) plan, and long term care insurance.

As an employee of a PERA-affiliated employer, you contribute to Colorado PERA instead of Social Security. Your contributions are tax-deferred until they are returned to your either through a refund or a monthly benefit. District 51 also contributes a percentage of its total payroll to PERA. These contributions are deposited with other employer contributions in a pooled pension trust fund. If you refund your account, you will receive a portion of these funds.
