Online options for 2021-2022
Posted on 04/26/2021

Dear D51 Families,

As we end the 2020-2021 school year, we are looking at the online options available to families through District 51. The D51 Online program was created last fall in response to the ongoing pandemic, to allow students to continue their education online instead of returning to in-person school. Many families are interested in continuing with an online option, and the D51 Board of Education has decided to merge D51 Online with Grand River Academy starting with the 2021-2022 school year. The combination of the two will be called Grand River Academy going forward.

In the 2021-2022 school year, Grand River Academy will offer two options:

  1. Blended: Students will attend in-person classes on the Grand River Academy campus for one day a week to receive teacher support, and participate in online school for the remaining four days each week. *Elementary grades are only available in the blended option.

  2. Online: Students will attend school online all five days and participate in weekly check-ins for each class through Google Meet. This option is not available for elementary students.

Both options will be staffed by local, state certified, D51 teachers. In the blended option, your student will receive face-to-face instruction and support as part of their regular schedule. Online students will have the option to request face-to-face instruction if needed. Elementary will use K-12 curriculum, and middle and high school will continue with Odysseyware.

We are asking families to carefully consider these options when deciding on schooling for next year. If you are interested in either of the Grand River Academy options (blended or all-online), please fill out this enrollment form by Friday, April 30. Please keep in mind that seats are limited in both options, and filling out the form does not necessarily guarantee you a spot. Students currently enrolled in Grand River Academy do not need to reapply. D51 Online students interested in continuing with an online option will need to reapply.

If you would like to return to your regular, home-area school, please contact your school to arrange your student’s return.

Please contact us at 970-254-6393 or gra@d51schools.org if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Welcome to D51 Online School

We are excited to have you and your student as part of our program. Our staff are committed to creating a dynamic experience as they partner with students and families to provide a great online school experience. D51 Online’s approach to learning gives students control over their education and puts them in the driver’s seat. Our online learning platforms offer rigorous but engaging learning opportunities for students.

We know there are several burning questions on your minds right now. Here are a few things you need to know:

● Online curriculum is not the same as in-person instruction. Students will likely take 5 classes each. We will focus on the four main contents; ELA, math, science, and social studies. MS students will also have an advisory class. HS students will have one elective class that meets a graduation requirement.

● We hope to offer AP courses for HS students that were enrolled in AP through their home school. We are working with Colorado Digital Learning Solutions to accomplish this.

● D51 Online HS students may receive elective credits for work hours.

● D51 Students may participate in sports and extracurricular activities provided at their home schools as long as they remain eligible.

At D51 Online, we place a high value on our partnerships with parents, guardians, and families and we invite you to be a part of helping your child achieve their full potential. Parents/guardians and families are a vital part of the student’s educational team. You contribute greatly to the success of your student at D51 Online. We value family and the role that it plays in the education of our students. You are truly your student’s first teacher. We look forward to partnering with you.
