Grand Junction, CO The community is invited to the Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, premiere of a school safety video created by and starring School District 51, Grand Junction Fire Department and Grand Junction Police Department representatives. The event, which will include both a screening of the video and a discussion of school safety measures, will begin at 6 p.m. in the Harry Butler Board Room at R-5 High School, 455 N. 22nd St.

The video stars a teacher, a paramedic, and a police officer walking parents through each of their roles during a lockdown, shelter-in-place, and evacuation, and details how to get information during any one of these events. The video fulfills a request made by the District 51 Safety Committee – a group of local parents, citizens, D51 staff, and representatives from the fields of justice and law enforcement – at a June 19, 2018, D51 School Board meeting. Next Monday’s event also fulfills the committee’s request that the agencies involved host a public premiere of the video and pair it with a safety discussion.

The district, fire and police departments would like to thank everyone who participated in the creation of this video, including staff from all three agencies, families, and students from Bookcliff Middle School’s summer programming.
