Social Emotional Learning
Our K–12 Social Emotional Learning (SEL) framework is grounded in the Colorado Essential Skills Standards, which emphasize collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and self-management.
Through the unified resource, Kindness in the Classroom, students receive explicit instruction in the skills needed to build self-awareness, manage emotions, strengthen relationships, and make responsible decisions. This instruction supports the D51 Graduate Profile, which outlines the competencies students need for success in college, career, and the military beyond D51. From early elementary through high school, learners develop the habits and mindsets needed to navigate challenges, contribute to their communities, and succeed in an ever-changing world.
Below you’ll find documents that outline the key units taught throughout the school year in each grade level. These overviews provide a high-level snapshot of the instructional sequence for each grade level. Each unit is linked to a more detailed unit plan, which includes the standards, essential content, and instructional focus.
This curriculum will be implemented beginning in the 2026–2027 school year.
