English Language Arts
Our K-12 English Language Arts curriculum is comprehensive, rigorous, and designed to ensure every learner becomes a confident reader, writer, speaker, and critical thinker.
Grounded in the Colorado Academic Standards, learners explore a wide range of diverse texts, ideas, and perspectives that build knowledge, empathy, and analytical skills. From foundational reading skills such as phonics and fluency in elementary school to literary analysis, research, and academic writing in high school, students learn to comprehend complex texts and express their ideas with clarity and purpose - arguably the most important skills in their pre-K to twelfth grade education as literacy enables the higher-order learning, critical thinking, and communication students will engage in across contents and for life.
Below you’ll find documents that outline the key units taught throughout the school year in English language arts. These overviews provide a high-level snapshot of the instructional sequence for each grade level. Each unit, module, or topic is linked to a more detailed unit plan, which includes the standards, essential content, and instructional focus. While the site is accessible to all stakeholders, some linked resources, such as assessments or copyrighted instructional materials, may only be accessible to staff.
