Academic Standards

Colorado Academic Standards and the Common Core

Colorado is one of 45 states that have adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Math and English Language Arts/Literacy beginning in 2013-14. The Colorado Academic Standards (CAS) in math, reading, writing and communicating incorporate the entire Common Core State Standards while addressing components that are unique to Colorado, including personal finance, literacy, 21st Century skills, prepared graduate competency and preschool expectations. The CAS are aligned with college and work expectations and include rigorous content and skills.

The complete Colorado Academic Standards can be found HERE.

Why standards?

Created by Coloradans for Colorado students, the Colorado Academic Standards provide a grade-by-grade road map to help ensure students are successful in college, careers, and life. The standards aim to improve what students learn and how they learn in 12 content areas while emphasizing critical thinking, creativity, problem solving, collaboration, and communication as essential skills for life in the 21st century. -Colorado Department of Education
