Please note: Some schools may have different start dates due to transitions and changes within their buildings. Schools that deviate from the standard district schedule will inform their families of the specific start dates.

District Notifications

Most district communications will be sent through SchoolMessenger via text and email. We regularly send notifications about district and school information, closures, delayed starts, early releases, power outages, or incidents regarding your child's school. Please ensure the contact information you have for your child is updated in your ParentVUE account.
Text Alerts: To sign up to receive text messages from your school or district, you must have an active SMS number on file in Synergy and Opt-In to receive messages via your mobile carrier. Sign up for text alerts and communications by texting "YES" to 67587.

Athletics

District 51 offers a variety of sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities - and we encourage all our students to find their passion. There is something for everyone! Here is some information you need to know if your child wants to participate in athletics this school year.

Physicals: Don't wait—get their physicals done early! All sports require a physical to be completed and paperwork to be filled out. You can complete a sports physical through your child’s primary health care physician or visit www.d51schools.org/athletics for additional sports physical locations.

Registration: The athletic registration process is paperless and done online. To register for sports, visit www.d51schools.org/athletics and click on your child’s school. To participate in sports, all athletes must provide electronic copies of:

Student's physical health screening
Completed parent permission form
Completed Athletic Code of Conduct form

Cost: The registration fee is $150 per sport.

Start Date: Boys Golf begins on August 5 and Cross Country, Football, Boys Soccer, Softball, Spirit, Boys Tennis, and Volleyball begin August 12.

Before and After School Childcare

District 51 partners with several local organizations that offer before and aftercare for our students.

Extended Hours

The purpose of the Extended Hours Program is to provide a comfortable, safe, and interesting environment for children. The program is designed to meet the needs of children who will be or have already spent a challenging day in school. The program offers children an opportunity to be with their friends, enrich their day through special activities and classes, work on homework assignments, and to relax.

Riverside Education Center

Riverside Education Centers (REC) provides Mesa County students with high-quality academic and extracurricular experiences during out-of-school time to foster individual growth and to create community within a safe, diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment.

Immunizations

To attend a school in Colorado, your child must be vaccinated against certain diseases unless you have a special reason not to. These reasons could be medical or other personal (non-medical) reasons.

Non-medical exemption paperwork

If you choose not to vaccinate your child for non-medical reasons, you must complete and submit paperwork to the school every year. Non-medical exemption paperwork can be completed in one of the following two ways.

1. Submit a certificate you receive after completing an online class about immunizations.

Preschool

Preschool starts on August 20, 2024

Welcome to District 51's preschool program, where we believe in fostering a love of learning through play, exploration, and creativity. We invite you to explore our program and see how we can help your child blossom and grow!

District 51's preschool programs provide a positive early education experience for 3 through non-school-age 5-year-old children who are eligible. Our preschool program includes 29 classrooms that offer a part-time program and two classrooms offering a full-day program.

Our part-time programs offer:

12 hours weekly
Monday through Thursday
Either a morning or afternoon 3-hour session, based on availability

Our full-day programs offer:

30 hours weekly
Monday through Thursday
7 1/2 hours per day

*Full-day classrooms have limited availability. Placement in a full-day program is dependent on families qualifying for 30 hours through the Universal Preschool Colorado program.

Safety and Security

In District 51, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and visitors is our top priority. Our Safety and Security Department is dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure environment conducive to learning.

Led by our Director of Safety and Security, our team includes a Safety and Security Coordinator, a Crisis Coordinator, and nine highly trained Safety and Security Officers. Together, they work diligently to implement comprehensive safety protocols, conduct risk assessments, and coordinate emergency response procedures across all school facilities.

Through proactive measures, ongoing training, and collaboration with local law enforcement and first-responding agencies, we strive to ensure that every individual in District 51 feels secure and supported, enabling them to thrive academically and personally.
